Dan Kotin, CBA President, Speaks Out Against Trump Travel Ban

CHICAGO, IL, FEBRUARY 6, 2017

Attorney Daniel Kotin, Chicago Bar Association (CBA) President and Partner at Tomasik Kotin Kasserman, spoke out on behalf of the Bar Association's 20,000 attorneys regarding President Donald Trump's travel ban.

The CBA and other legal organizations feel that the President went too far in slamming a federal judge with statements such as "so-called judge" and the "ridiculous" ruling. The Bar Association believes there is no basis for banning people from entering the United States from the seven predominantly Mulsim countries of Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia.

Attorney Kotin and the CBA shared that the President's order, detaining even those with green cards and valid visas, is a clear violation of the First Amendment and the Immigration Act of 1965.

Additionally, the CBA recognized the courage of the lawyers who have been at O'Hare Airport since the travel ban ten days ago, working pro bono with travelers detained. The Bar Association also issued calls to officials to enforce the rule of law, legal professionals and judges to protect the Constitution, and to Muslim Americans to stand up for their rights.
