Dozens Injured in Massive Multi-Vehicle Accident in Southern Illinois

On Interstate 55 in Sangamon County and Montgomery County, a multi-vehicle accident occurred that affected dozens of people. The crash has been attributed to a large dust storm that significantly decreased visibility for drivers. This accident took place south of Springfield on the stretch of I-55 between Divernon and Farmersville, and it affected vehicles in both the northbound and southbound lanes. Around 40 to 60 vehicles were involved, and at least two semi-trailer trucks caught fire in the aftermath of the crash. According to the Illinois State Police, more than 30 people have been hospitalized, and there have been multiple fatalities.
