Lyft Under Fire Again for Another Sexual Assault By a Driver
December 11, 2018 - In the latest example of the dangers that passengers may face when using rideshare services, a Lyft driver in Lyons, Illinois was arrested and charged with sexual assault. The driver allegedly picked up a 17-year-old passenger and made repeated sexual advances during the ride, including touching her inappropriately. The driver had previously been arrested multiple times on sex-related charges.
This is only the most recent incident demonstrating ride-sharing companies' failure to keep their customers safe. The screening and background check processes used by Lyft and Uber often fail to recognize drivers that may be a danger to passengers. These negligent practices present a serious risk to public safety, and these companies should be held responsible when their customers are injured by drivers.
At Tomasik Kotin Kasserman, LLC, we understand the legal issues involved in cases in which ride-share passengers are harmed by their drivers, and we are experienced in pursuing compensation from these companies. In November of 2017, we filed a lawsuit against Lyft on behalf of a Chicago woman who was sexually assaulted by a driver who had been hired despite a criminal history that included charges for theft, DUI, and unlawful possession of weapons.
If you have been assaulted or otherwise injured by a Lyft or Uber driver, TKK can help you understand your options for pursuing compensation from a negligent ride-sharing company. Contact us at 312-605-8800 to schedule a free consultation.
